This Used To Be My Playground

YouTube has tons of videos of Roxy's Last Dance, but I'm pretty sure this is the one Peter was filming on his little camera. It looks like it's coming from the DJ booth. Anyway, I think you can spot me and Ouizer all the way to the left at :24. It was a very bittersweet moment for all the peeps there.

haha! Actually, Ouizer's right. While other kids were drawing stick figures, rainbows, and flowers, I was drawing sketches and floorplans of clubs I wanted to own/spin at one day. I still have some of them! My favorite was one I called "Club Illicit". I think Madonna's "Into the Groove" video and Soul Train provided most of my inspiration. The first time I walked into Roxy was like a dream come true.

Hey, I love the Hippo!

The Roxy was every childhood fantasy I ever had when I was dancing behind closed doors in my bedroom.

Don't even talk about it. I fell in love with Roxy in Spring 2000 when Clairee, M'Lynn and I were dancing around like lil' woodpeckahs. I was living in D.C. at the time and I would ride the BLEAK Peter Pan bus all the way up to NYC to party at Roxy. It wasn't until I experienced it that I realized THAT was what I was waiting for my whole life. I was home.

Even though I couldn't turn it out for the last dance, Ms. Roxy has a special place in m'heart. Without her, I wouldn't have The Cabinet or my boyfriend of 5 years. I think that's a pretty fair price for the complete depletion of the seratonin in my brain.
